Work and Travel USA

Summer Work and Travel USA Program

Through this program, students who are enrolled in a public or private university can go during the summer break to work and travel in USA.

Why should I choose W&T?

-         Gain experience in a different cultural environment in the most developed capitalistic country in the world
-         I have the opportunity to get in touch with people from all the corners of the world
-         I’ll visit places that I have seen until now only in movies
-         I’ll have fun with other students
-         I’ll improve my English
-         I’ll have the opportunity to come back home with some money…don’t forget to tell us other reasons that you’ll discover on your own.

Eligibility requirements

-         Student at a public or private university
-         Age between 18 and 28
-         Minimum English requirements
-         The chance to work USA in different locations: amusement parks, hotels, casinos, national parks and famous tourist landmarks
First year students: to enroll in the W&T program after the 1st semester they must have an average grade of 9, the only criteria required by the embassy.
Master degree students: with a minimum length of 1.5 years, getting the visa will mostly depend on the embassy interview but also on the results from the 1st semester of the current year.
Students from the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Macedonia (no matter the year of study) can participate in this program if they successfully pas the eligibility conditions (grades and English).
Visa refusals: are mostly because of the insufficient grade requirements. In general the embassy wants to see a progress in the grade evolution of the applicants (a lower grade in the first year fallowed by a bigger grade in the next year).

What's the program offer?

-         Getting a job or giving information about how to get a job (depends on the program options)
-         Getting the documents ready in order to get the visa (DS 2019 form, SEVIS…)
-          Medical insurance for a maximum period of 18 months
-         A guide book and an ID card
-         Training before going in USA, where participants will get useful info about the program and the places they’ll go
-         Free phone assistance 24 hours on the US territory

Pay rate and housing: As a participant in this program you will be paid a minimum of $6/hour for a minimum of 35-40 hours/week. The J1 visa will let you get a 2nd job. Almost all the participants in this program will have 2 jobs while in the USA.

Necessary enrollment documents:

-         Registration form from ZIP (including a photo) written with capital letters; the email address must be correctly written and highlighted because this is the main method of communication;

Program type:

Independent placement: Choosing this option, you’ll find by yourself a job and a place to stay in US, and you’ll give to Zip Travel the contract which you have signed with your employer (IPA). After the first 2 program payments, Zip Travel will put at your disposure a database with employee contacts that hired Romanian students in the past.
Premium Placement: Choosing this method, Zip Travel will find you a job and housing. Usually, there will be a job fair where students have the possibility to negotiate their job directly with their employer.
Finalizing the application: depending on the program option, during January-April applicants must sign their contract and pay the entire program fee.
For the Independent Placement, the job offer must be given to Zip in the timeframe provided in the contract.
For the Premium Placement, after the total payment, the applicant can choose a job from the lists provided by Zip or at the job fairs organized between February and April.
