3 day Sydney to Melbourne + 3 day Melbourne to Adelaide

Leave Sydney via the Snowy Mountains and Wilson's Promontory.  Take a break (as long as you like) in Melbourne before continuing on to Adelaide along the famous Great Ocean Road coastline and through the majestic Grampians Ranges and Gariwerd National Park.
 Itinerary
Day 1: Sydney to Jindabyne (via Canberra)
Canberra is Australia’s Capital city and where our Prime Minister hangs out, this is where we head to on our way out of Sydney. We’ll do a tour of Parliament House check out a few embassies and see other city highlights. After lunch, we go to Cooma and learn a little about the Snowy Hydro-Electric Scheme (one of the most complex integrated water and hydro-electric power schemes in the world). Arrive Jindabyne in the late afternoon, a town with a relaxed alpine village feel. There’s time for trout fishing in the lake or you could even go water skiing or wake boarding (all at own expense and seasonal). Tonight you’ll enjoy dinner and overnight accommodation at Lake Jindabyne (all included). Kick back and relax with a sauna, swim or a drink at the bar. (D)
Day 2: Australian Alps to Lakes Entrance via Snowy River Country
After breakfast, a hike along an alpine track rewards you with stunning views of the glacial ‘Blue Lake’ and the top of Mt Kosciuszko (Australia’s highest point). During winter, we’ve got time to play in the snow at the ski resort of Perisher/Smiggins (optional toboggan hire or snow tube at own expense). After lunch, it’s a spectacular drive along the remote Barry Way, with the Snowy River winding along below us. Cross into Victoria before arriving at our overnight stop at the coastal town of Lakes Entrance, gateway to the Gippsland Lakes and Australia’s longest beach – Ninety Mile Beach. (BD)
Day 3: Lakes Entrance to Wilsons Promontory National Park and Melbourne
If you’re an early bird, it’s a great chance for a walk before we drive to Wilsons Promontory National Park. Once there, walk along white sandy beaches, watch the ocean pound onto the southernmost point of the mainland, hike along amazing granite rock formations and learn about coastal flora and native wildlife. You might even see emus and wombats. We’ll finish our tour travelling to Melbourne through pastoral landscapes in South Gippsland. (B)

Day 1: Melbourne via Great Ocean Road to Princetown
Our trip begins as we leave Melbourne and head through Geelong towards the coast to Torquay, with a stop to shop at Quiksilver and Rip Curl before we continue to world famous Bells Beach. Our Great Ocean Road journey begins here as we wind our way along one of the most spectacular coastal roads in Australia.
We stop to see some koalas before passing through the seaside town of Lorne on our way to Apollo Bay, where we’ll stop for lunch (own expense). Next we hit the cool temperate rainforest of the Otway National Park, spending some time at the magnificent Otway Fly, 25 metre high elevated tree top walk. We cap off the day watching the sun set over the Twelve Apostles. We’ll stay overnight in the coastal township of Princetown. (D)
Day 2: Princetown to Grampians National Park
Start the day with an optional helicopter ride over the amazing 12 Apostles or walk down the Gibson Steps to the beach to get a different angle of the limestone stacks. Next we head on to check out Loch Ard Gorge and the western end of the Great Ocean Road including London Bridge, the Bay of Martyrs and Bay of Islands. You may spot a whale or two (seasonal) at Warrnambool, where we have a stop. From here we travel through country Victoria, arriving at the magnificent Grampians National Park to the challenge of a hike to the top of the Pinnacle. The day is topped off by a walk to The Balconies and Reeds Lookout, before we get to our overnight Grampians accommodation. (BD)
Day 3: Grampians National Park to Adelaide
Get your legs working this morning with hikes at Hollow Mountain and the amazing MacKenzie Falls, where you’ll experience the breathtaking views stretching over the north of the Grampians. Leaving this magical place, we travel west, stopping for lunch at Horsham (own expense) before continuing through the agricultural region of Victoria and in to South Australia. Bordertown is home of the rare White Western Grey Kangaroos. Crossing the mighty Murray River, king of Australia’s rivers, we wind our way through the picture-pretty Adelaide Hills before arriving into Adelaide city. (B)

3 day Sydney to Melbourne tour

Discover Australia's capital city of Canberra, the Australian Alps, Walk to "The Roof Of Australia"!!, Snowy River wilderness and Wilsons Promontory National Park - as you travel between Australia's two largest cities, Sydney and Melbourne. Day 1: Sydney to Thredbo Alpine Village(via Canberra)
Our first stop today is the capital city of Australia, Canberra where the Prime Minister hangs out. We’ll take you to the top of Mt Ainslie so you can see for yourself how a custom-made capital city was built. We also do a tour of Parliament House, then check out a few embassies and see other city highlights before travelling back on to Thredbo Alpine Village. (B)
 
Day 2: Thredbo to Lakes Entrance via Snowy River Country
Grab your hiking boots and cameras because this morning we’re going to the “Roof of Australia”. We catch the express chairlift up the mountain. The chairlift is your own expense, but Oz Experience gets a mega-cheap rate! You can walk to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko, which is Australia’s highest mountain, or to the viewing point. After lunch, it’s a spectacular drive along The Barry Way, watching the Snowy River wind along below us. Tonight we stay in the coastal town of Lakes Entrance, the Gateway to the Gippsland Lakes and Australia’s longest beach – Ninety Mile Beach. (BD)

Day 8: Adelaide to Quorn
Leaving the city behind, we travel through the Clare Valley then on to the frontier town of Melrose where we take a short walk across a swinging bridge and enjoy panoramic views from the Mt Remarkable lookout.  Soon after we arrive in Quorn, the quaint and historical railway township nestled at the entrance to the Richman Valley.  Eat a hearty lunch, because this afternoon we hike to the summit of Dutchman's Stern for stunning 360° views of Quorn, Spencer Gulf and the Flinders Ranges! We return to Quorn where we stay two nights in private accommodation at the historical “Mill”. Get ready for tonight’s BBQ dinner – it doesn’t get any more Aussie than this! (LD)
 
Day 9: Flinders Ranges and Wilpena Pound
The Flinders Ranges has been recognised as one of Australia’s National Landscapes and today you’ll get to experience and explore this magical region!  Wilpena Pound is a natural amphitheatre located in a huge stone crater and you will spend the morning hiking and exploring its wonder! After lunch, it’s a short walk to Yourambulla Caves to view Aboriginal rock paintings.  Learn about the hardships of sheep farming in the mid 1800’s as you view the ruins of Kanyaka Homestead. As we travel back to Quorn, there’s an opportunity to spot for the shy and elusive Yellow Footed Rock Wallaby on a quiet stroll through peaceful Warren Gorge. Overnight at the Quorn “Mill”. (BLD)
 
Day 10: Quorn to Coober Pedy
It’s time to go underground! We journey north through Port Augusta and the small town of Glendambo (population 30!) and visit ancient salt lakes which are the remnants of an inland sea.  We arrive in plenty of time to check out the sites of Cooper Pedy on a town tour which includes an opal cutting demonstration and mine tour with the opportunity to try your luck ‘noodling’ for opals! Our bunkhouse for tonight is – you guessed it – underground. (BLD)
 
Day 11: Coober Pedy to Uluru
Driving through the rugged desert country, we reach Yulara in time for infamous Uluru (Ayers Rock) sunset. Tonight, lend a hand as we cook dinner at our permanent campsite then consider the option to sleep under the outback stars in a traditional ‘Aussie swag’. (BLD)
 
Day 12: Uluru to Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon
Sunrise over Uluru is magical and it’s an early start to catch it! While the morning’s fresh (and your legs are too!) take a walk around Uluru’s base (unguided), or climb to the top if you choose – however, the Anangu traditional owners prefer it if you don’t, before we take a guided interpretive walk at Mala. After visiting Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) we head to Kings Canyon, where we camp for the night. (BLD)
 
Day 13: Kings Canyon to Alice Springs
There’s a lot to explore at Kings Canyon, including the Lost City, the lush and ancient Garden of Eden and the sheer outcrops of the North and South Walls. After lunch, relax and enjoy the harsh desert scenery as we travel to Alice Springs. (BL)

Day 1: Sydney to Surf Camp
Today we head to our secluded surf camp, located beachside north of Sydney. You may wish to sun bake on the crystal white sands or take a walk around the beautiful headland. This afternoon we relax on the beach and in the evening hang out and have dinner at the Mojo Beach House. (D)
 
Day 2: Surf Camp to Byron Bay
After a delicious breakfast, hit the beach for your morning surf lesson. The Mojo Professional Surf Instructors are on a mission is to get you standing on a board by the end of this lesson! You will start with a theory lesson on surfing and then it’s straight out to the beach to get you on a board. After surfing we head north to Byron Bay, Australia’s most easterly point. We travel to the Byron Bay lighthouse for amazing views of the East Coast and inland national parks. After checking in to our accommodation you are free to enjoy one of Australia’s finest beaches. Day 3: Byron Bay to Rainbow Beach
Be the first to see the new day in Australia! An option this morning is to go with your guide to the lighthouse for sunrise. You may even see whales or dolphins. After breakfast we head north to Rainbow Beach via Surfers Paradise. Further north we take a short break at the spectacular lookout at Wild Horse Mountain. Enjoy panoramic views of the Sunshine Coast overlooking Noosa and Mooloolaba, before arriving at Rainbow Beach; a vibrant young coastal town, with glistening coloured sands and a relaxed atmosphere. This evening relax in our accommodation, located just 100 metres from the beach. (D)
 
Days 4 - 5 : 2 Day Fraser Island Tour
Spend the next two days exploring Fraser Island on a ranger guided 4WD safari with Fraser Explorer, staying at Eurong Resort. You will drive along Seventy-Five Mile Beach, visit Lakes’ Wabby and Mackenzie, Eli Creek, the Maheno Wreck and climb Indian Head. Return to Rainbow Beach for an overnight stay. Day 6: Rainbow Beach to Kroombit Cattle Station
There’s an option today to feed wild dolphins at Tin Can Bay. You can take the bus or catch the ferry (ferry is your own expense).  After dolphin feeding we head inland through cattle country to Kroombit Cattle Station.  Here we experience genuine outback living with the chance to ride a mechanical bull and take a walk of the property. Tonight you will taste a traditional camp oven dinner, cooked in the open fire. (D)
 
Day 7: Kroombit Cattle Station
Today is jam-packed with wonderful activities also included in the price of your tour. Learn first-hand about Queensland farming life as you participate in a “goat muster” on horseback, try your skill at trap-shooting and be part of a mini-rodeo as animals are herded into the ring. This evening enjoy another hearty camp-oven dinner and re-live your day’s experiences around the campfire with a beer from the bush bar.  (BLD)

Day 8: Kroombit to Carnarvon Gorge
Start the day with a hearty breakfast before heading further inland through Central Queensland’s remote outback to the little known jewel of Carnarvon National Park.  Carnarvon Gorge, central to this park is a remarkable natural attraction with 30kms of walking trails, 200 species of birds, ancient plants and Aboriginal rock-art dating back 3,500 years. This afternoon we will get a taste of the gorge with a short walk amongst the numerous kangaroos and wallabies that inhabit the area. Stay tonight in large permanent tents amongst the wilderness. Day 9: Carnarvon Gorge
Chances are that your sleep will be broken this morning by the many birds that live amongst trees surrounding the camp. After breakfast you will spend the full day hiking through the many walking trails scattered throughout this magnificent gorge. Walks are mostly of easy grade and therefore suitable for all ages and fitness levels, however the options are varied. You will see 500 year old cycads, grass trees and eucalypts, native wildlife and learn about the indigenous ancestors that inhabited this region for more than 3500 years. See the best examples of rock-art in Queensland, made from the ochre taken from the region. After a days exercise, you will return to your camp for a good nights sleep within this wilderness region. Day 10: Carnarvon Gorge to Airlie Beach
We start early today for our big drive from Carnarvon Gorge to the Mackay region. This is the first time we’ve hit the coast in four days and we now follow the coast to arrive at the Airlie Beach. Tomorrow you’ll be sailing in some of finest sailing waters in the world – the Whitsunday Islands. (B)
 
Days 11-13: Whitsunday Sailing
You will have the opportunity to sun-bathe, snorkel and swim whilst exploring the idyllic Whitsunday Islands on a million dollar yacht. Visit the many beaches, coves and islands on this two night sailing trip, with the opportunity to hoist the sails and even take the wheel. Note that you will sleep on the boat, moored in quiet coves. Cabins are share only; no twin and doubles for these two nights. Back on land, we leave Airlie Beach and head to Townsville. From here we take the ferry to Magnetic Island, so named by Captain Cook because his compass went crazy when he sailed past in 1771. This evening, relax with a cold beer and watch the sunset from the beach bar of the only backpackers resort in Australia located right on the beach. (Day 11: D Day 12: BLD Day 13: B)
 
Day 14: Magnetic Island to Cairns
After the short ferry trip back to the mainland, we drive to the Johnstone River Crocodile Farm to learn more about the most feared animal in Northern Australia: the estuarine or saltwater crocodile. Learn how this prehistoric animal has survived and flourished in Australia’s harsh north and see large crocodiles up close and personal. From here, we stop at Babinda Boulders for a refreshing rainforest walk. As we arrive into Cairns, you will be able to cherish the many great experiences of Australia’s East Coast.

As we travel back to Quorn, there’s an opportunity to spot for the shy and elusive Yellow Footed Rock Wallaby on a quiet stroll through peaceful Warren Gorge. Overnight at the Quorn “Mill”. (BLD)
 
Day 10: Quorn to Coober Pedy
It’s time to go underground! We journey north through Port Augusta and the small town of Glendambo (population 30!) and visit ancient salt lakes which are the remnants of an inland sea.  We arrive in plenty of time to check out the sites of Cooper Pedy on a town tour which includes an opal cutting demonstration and mine tour with the opportunity to try your luck ‘noodling’ for opals! Our bunkhouse for tonight is – you guessed it – underground. (BLD)
 
Day 11: Coober Pedy to Uluru
Driving through the rugged desert country, we reach Yulara in time for infamous Uluru (Ayers Rock) sunset. Tonight, lend a hand as we cook dinner at our permanent campsite then consider the option to sleep under the outback stars in a traditional ‘Aussie swag’. (BLD)
 
Day 12: Uluru to Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon
Sunrise over Uluru is magical and it’s an early start to catch it! While the morning’s fresh (and your legs are too!) take a walk around Uluru’s base (unguided), or climb to the top if you choose – however, the Anangu traditional owners prefer it if you don’t, before we take a guided interpretive walk at Mala. After visiting Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) we head to Kings Canyon, where we camp for the night. (BLD)
 
Day 13: Kings Canyon to Alice Springs
There’s a lot to explore at Kings Canyon, including the Lost City, the lush and ancient Garden of Eden and the sheer outcrops of the North and South Walls. After lunch, relax and enjoy the harsh desert scenery as we travel to Alice Springs. (BL)
Days 14/15: Alice Springs
Enjoy 2 FREE DAYS to explore Alice Springs. Overnight accommodations included. (Meals at own expense).
Day 16: Alice Springs to Banka Banka
We pass by 23 26 22 south of the equator (otherwise known as the Tropic of Capricorn) before stopping at Ti Tree for the chance to buy original works of art by Indigenous artists. Learn about the early struggles of bush telecommunications at Barrow Creek’s historic Telegraph Station – it’ll make your mobile phone seem like the space age! Precariously balanced on their rocky perch are the Devils Marbles, a site sacred to its traditional owners. Last stop for today is our camp at Banka Banka Cattle Station and if the weather’s good, you can take a dip in the pretty waterhole. (LD)
Day 17: Banka Banka to Katherine Gorge
No visit to the Top End would be complete without a visit to the famed Daly Waters pub, a quintessential outback roadhouse and ‘watering hole’ for travellers from far and wide. The tiny town is also home to Australia’s first international airport (but you wouldn’t guess it!). Mataranka lies in the heart of the ‘never-never’, and you’ll feel a million miles from anywhere as you soak in the steamy thermal springs. As the day draws to a close, we reach our overnight camp at stunning Katherine Gorge. (BLD)
Day 18: Katherine Gorge to Darwin
The gorge is all yours this morning, with a half day to spend canoeing or cruising (at own expense) the spectacular waters. Want to see more? Jump aboard a helicopter flight (at own expense) which will take you high above the vast gorge system. We’ll head to Darwin after a bite to eat, with stops at idyllic Edith Falls and the ‘croc-filled’ Adelaide River (both a town and a river). Overnight dorm accommodation included. (BL)
Day 19: Darwin to Mary River
A refreshing start to your day: the waterfalls of Litchfield National Park, followed by the spectacular Mary River Wetlands. Birds aren’t the only wildlife abundant around here; keep your eyes out for lurking crocodiles on our private river cruise! A secluded campsite at Point Stuart Wilderness Lodge is where we’ll stay tonight. (LD)
Day 20: Mary River to Kakadu
Discover ancient Aboriginal rock art at Ubirr, our first stop this morning. Clamber to the top of a rocky lookout for fabulous views over the Nardab floodplain. Next it’s on to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), where a hike is rewarded with a reviving swim in the plunge pools. Tonight we stay at our permanent camp within Kakadu National Park. (BLD)
Day 21: Kakadu to Darwin
Get ready for some 4WD action today on our way to Jim Jim Falls! Once we get there, we’ll hike to the base of the falls before continuing on to Twin Falls. Feel the beauty of the stunning gorge and powerful falls from the National Park operated boat and boardwalk experience. The impressive scenery will continue to amaze you as we journey back to Darwin in the afternoon. (BL)
